Thousands of Athletes and Visitors Converge for State's Premier Amateur Sports Festival |
The 2025 Summer Games of Texas have commenced in Bryan-College Station, drawing over 8,000 athletes and thousands of spectators to the region.
This marks the eighth occasion the area has hosted the state's largest amateur sports festival, with previous events held in 1988, 1994, 2000, 2014, 2015, 2018, and 2019.
Competitions are taking place at premier venues, including Texas A&M University's E.B. Cushing Stadium for track and field, the Bryan Aquatic Center for swimming, and the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center for tennis.
Additional events such as archery, boxing, esports, golf, pickleball, and ultimate frisbee are scheduled across various locations in the area.
The opening ceremonies are set for Friday, August 1, at Wolf Pen Creek Amphitheater, featuring a parade of athletes at 7:20 p.m. and a fireworks display at 8:30 p.m.
Attendees are advised to utilize free parking at Post Oak Mall on the JCPenney side, with handicap parking available along Colgate Drive.
Residents should anticipate increased traffic near event venues, particularly around E.B. Cushing Stadium and the Bryan Aquatic Center.
In preparation for the Games, several community facilities will be closed through August 6, including the Bryan Aquatic Center, Henderson Harbor, and Sadie Thomas Pool.
Similarly, in College Station, closures include the Adamson Lagoon, Cindy Hallaran Pool, and various recreation centers through August 3.
The influx of visitors is expected to provide a significant economic boost to the region.
In 2019, the Games attracted over 20,000 visitors, generating an estimated $8.1 million in local economic activity.
Local officials encourage residents to extend a warm welcome to athletes and their families, embodying the community's renowned hospitality.
The 2025 Summer Games of Texas will conclude on Sunday, August 3.
Community members are invited to attend the various sporting events and festivities throughout the weekend.
